What Children Need Assignment:
Part I:
Watch the lecture by Dr. Patricia Kuhl on early learning (58 minutes)
Describe in THREE important research studies (what did they do and what did they find) presented by Dr. Kuhl.
Part II:
Watch the video 10 Things that Every Child Needs (57 minutes)
These videos do a great job of summarizing key points in early childhood development-as well as giving a bit more important information!
1. First, name that ‘thing' and briefly describe it. For example, what does "play" mean for a young child? YES, you need to define each. "Play" and "reading" seem obvious, for example, but your explanation defines what these things mean for interacting with young children!
2. Then, Describe at least ONE specific and detailed example for each from the video demonstrating that ‘thing.' Pretend you are reading your description to a new parent -Would they understand that ‘thing' and why it's important/how to foster development with that ‘thing?'
3. Also, explain:
a. What was the difference between the drawings by the twins? Why did the expert say that this difference existed? Be sure to use the brain in your explanation.
b. Should parents play with their children or let them play on their own? Explain based on your learning from this video.
c. Be sure to do your own work. This video is a great one for your learning. I have a database of essays on several different versions of this particular video assignment-and I shouldn't see any even similar version to a past assignment or you will fail the assignment and the course.
