The Columbian Exchange YouTube Video
Read Chapter 1 (pages 16-38) in our course text, the excerpt from Bartoleme de Las Casas, my mini lecture on gender relations among Native Americans, The Myth of the Vanishing Indian, examine the chart on the nutrition of American and European crop, and watch the short videos on the Columbian Exchange and Columbus. Then, in a post of at least 200 words, discuss the following:
I. What surprised you most about the development of the first Native American communities?
II. What were the biggest impacts of the European invasion on those Native societies? (consider all indigenous communities discussed in the text and not just the ones that came into contact with Columbus and his men). Get the instant assignment help.
III. How does the chart on crop nutrition inform us about one of the ways the "discovery" of the Americas benefited Europeans?
IV. How does the myth of the "Vanishing Indian" inform the ways that some non-Native Americans think about American Indians today?
To receive full credit for your discussion, you must use two quotes from two different sources (one from each) from this week. Make sure you list what book and page or time stamp you got your quotes from. Be sure to cite them so I know where they came from.
