Ms. L is being discharged from the acute care facility after admission for atrial fibrillation. While she was in the acute care facility, it was discovered that Ms. L also has essential hypertension. She has no prior history of medical problems. She is 45 years old and lives with her two aging parents, who have multiple health problems. Ms. L is responsible for most of their care. She states, "I really need to know about the digoxin and verapamil that I'm required to take. I have to take care of myself so that I can work and take care of my parents." You assure Ms. L that you will provide teaching on the medications and written instructions. Ms. L has the following questions regarding her instructions:

What side effects should I be concerned with when taking verapamil? Why do I need to take digoxin and verapamil? What are my dietary restrictions when taking digoxin or verapamil?
