Assignment: Interpersonal Communication and Elders

The way that we speak to elders matters. Researchers have found that many professionals and family members use "elderspeak" when they communicate with elders. This is a form of childlike talk, and using it has been shown to have harmful effects on the elder. Investigate this phenomenon by locating three primary research studies on elderspeak or other harmful communication patterns. Be sure to explain how elderspeak affects the elder (consequences) and what research says professionals and family members should do instead.
