Description - Optimizing LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) concentrations through lifestyle and drug therapy is the hallmark of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. Yet, years of research have provided evidence that elevated LDL particle number and small dense LDL (sdLDL) are also associated with an increased risk of CVD. Recent methodological developments have allowed rapid and standardized assessment of LDL particle number and size. However there is a debate on if LDL particle size and number can be used in clinical practice.
