Case Study: Thank you for contributing to the discussion. The Covid-19 pandemic presented healthcare leaders with a number of unprecedented challenges, that had never been experienced before. Some of the more dominant challenges were health care leaders' ability to maintain safe patient care and staff member safety during the rapid spread of the coronavirus (Rubino et al., 2020). When the number of patients with COVID-19 in the United States began to increase, so did the quantities and the lack of availability of personal protective equipment (PPE). Having an adequate supply of the specific items needed to protect personnel and the resources needed to sustain the day-to-day operations, was a source of intense stress for many in the healthcare services environment (Mazzola & Grous, 2020).
At the start of the pandemic, both healthcare leaders and personnel were very often perplexed about which recommendations they needed to follow. In the midst of everyone trying to decipher what was oftentimes the best course of action, staff members were dependent upon leaders to have the right answers at the appropriate time to help get them through navigating the crisis. Although this was a challenging experience for health service organizations, one of the more positive aspects clearly evident in the midst of this crisis, was the level of teamwork that intensified across the various disciplines (Rubino et al., 2020). In many instances, the strategies that leaders put into place, such as daily team huddles, frequent town hall meetings, consistent updates and impromptu face-to-face dialogue, were all interventions that helped to provide a feeling of camaraderie and collaboration among team members within organizations. The interventions that leaders implemented throughout the organization were extremely beneficial in helping to ensure that safe patient care was sustained and employee safety was a top priority. These efforts are the hallmark of great leadership (Mazzola & Grous, 2020).
