GI/GU Case Study
80-year-old woman with a history of osteoarthritis who comes to see you for a routine visit. You have good rapport with Ms. Fitzgerald, she often brings you gifts...rum cake during the holidays and her latest album to listen to during all that leisure time you have. When you ask what brings her in today, she tells you that for several weeks now she has felt tired despite sleeping well and getting a full night's sleep. She tires easily and takes frequent naps because of her fatigue. She can no longer do her housework and she has not left the house for over a week.
You go over her history again, you discover she has been taking Ibuprofen regularly for her osteoarthritis. She reports often experiencing bloating, retrosternal burning and occasional nausea. She has recently been to Sam's to purchase Tum's in bulk supply and has been taking them 3-4 times a week to relieve her symptoms. She denies any problems with constipation and denies any changes in her stools.
