Assignment:
A 25 year-old female presents to the primary care office with a 2-week history of dull and steady bilateral lower abdominal pain, intermittent fever and chills and a mucopurulent vaginal discharge. She has no past medical history and takes no medications. She is sexually active and denies any known history of past sexually transmitted diseases.
On exam, temperature is 101.5 degrees F and the rest of the vital signs are normal. The general physical exam is normal. Bimanual exam reveals both cervical motion and adnexal tenderness.
There is a mucopurulent vaginal and cervical discharge.
