As a reminder, the problem is thus: we have an ordered alphabet (for example, integers), and we want to find the longest subsequence of a string of length n such that the characters in the subsequence go in (strictly) increasing order. Suppose we know ahead of time exactly what characters are in the string as well (the alphabet), and that there are s distinct characters.
