The most common cause of hip fractures in older adults is falls. Females are more 75% more prone to hip fractures than males. This could be because females are more prone to having osteoporosis which makes your bones waker and easier to break.

The incidence of hip fractures is increasing among older individuals because as age increases bones become weaker and easier to break, eye sight deteriorates making it easier for an older adult to trip and fall. In epidemiology, incidence is the number of occurrences in a certain time period/frame.

I personally know someone who suffered from a hip fracture. My grandma was in a car accident and fractured both of her legs and her hip. This really affected her for a while. She was in a wheel chair for a little under a year and she was going to physical therapy but she wasn't able to fulfill her full performance until about 2 years later. However, her hip and legs were never able to go back the way they were before.

From working in a nursing home that also has a rehabilitation program the most common cause of a hip fracture is a fall especially to the side. Hip fractures occur more in women due to the elder population being mostly made up of women. I think hip fractures are occurring more in the US due to the population not getting the adequate amount of minerals and nutrients needed. Incidence is a measurement of a disease to determine a persons probability of being diagnosed with that disease. I've taken care of many people with a broken hip. It decreases their mobility and range of motion. The individuals need more help before the break and often get depressed or upset from the occurrence. Being there to take care of the people requires a lot of patience and motivation from the care taker and the patient.
