Lara, the PT, has been charged to go over the discharge instructions with both patients.? Patient A, Jeff, had his surgery done by Dr. Jim and this physician is ordering early physical therapy for mobility and gait training.? Patient B, Matt, had his surgery done by Dr. Paul and his physician is ordering the use of a continuous passive range of motion (CPM) machine for three weeks before PT will be considered.? Lara gives the patients the option of having the discharge instructions discussed in a more private setting, but seeing as they have gotten along so well both roommates say they are comfortable with this discussion right in their room.

Matt is confused as to why Jeff's program is so much more aggressive and wants to know what Lara would recommend is better.? Lara has discussed with Dr. Paul the clinical practice guidelines for PT stating that a CPM is not recommended after a routine non-complicated knee replacement.
