Me. k is 80 years old man with diabetes mellitus type 2 and hypertension. He comes into the clinic for a wound on his right foot that has not been healing, he injured his foot when doing home repairs. He is in otherwise good health and sedentary when home. The wound is oozing, swollen, tender and warm to touch. He is running a fever of 104F and tells you his foot has been increasing in pain. He is unable to bear weight on his foot and when he sits it throne and aches. The wound measures 5cm x 4cm and there is a moderate amount of purulent exudate in the wound. He is ent to have it. Evaluate and treated at an outpatient care center.
