The section chosen is HIPAA breach notification. Cyber security has continued to grow and advance there will still be times where a cyber security attack will occur. It is important during those times to notify the correct organization and people of the breach of security in order to properly fix the breach. One of the first rules is that the covered entity must notify the Secretary if a breach of unsecured protected health information is found. One of the major differences of notice of breaching is based on how many people it affects. The time to report these security breaches will be different based on how many individuals it has affected. If the security breach affects 500 or more individuals then they must notify the Secretary no later than 60 calendar days. If the security breach affects less than 500 individuals then they must notify the Secretary within 60 days of the end of the calendar year. Facilities are also able to report all their notices of the breach at the same time if they choose to when the breach is affecting less than 500 people.

It is important to know the proper protocols and guidelines when this happens so that employees can try to minimize and not cause any more damage. Understanding how cyber security attacks occur as well can help facilities to further increase and develop all their information security safeguards. Safeguards can include firewalls, gateways, cloud computing, and the use of chief security officers. Continuing education is one of the most important ways to minimize the chance of a cyber security attack because if the employees and chief security officers are well informed of data and security knowledge they can continue to update facilities security making it stronger.
