Scenario:

You are working in a busy community hospital ER as a new grad. Tonight every ER bay is full with a full waiting room. The ambulance brings in an older man who was found on the side of the road passed out. The EMT tells you he smells of alcohol and they could not find any injured areas. He is on a back board with c-spine precautions in place.

Diagnostic tests show no injuries. As you are taking the patient off the backboard, you notice he could use a good bath and maybe something to eat. You proceed to sit the patient up to take a sponge bath when one of your colleagues yells out, "Hey sister Mary - this is an ER not a spa. We have other patients to care for. Don't you know what nursing is about? You new grads are all the same". Those surrounding this colleague start to laugh. You wonder what you are doing there and shake your head.
