Here's an excerpt from a press release by Sonic Solutions in January 2009 announcing a substantial deferred tax asset write-down:Novato, California (February 5, 2009)-Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) today announced financial results for the third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2008.Valuation Allowance. During the third quarter, we established a valuation allowance of approximately $29.6 million for deferred tax assets in accordance with Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 109 "Accounting for Income Taxes" for deferred tax assets previously recorded.
