Is building an AI system to predict long-term unemployment "risky" from an ethical perspective?
Things you can consider as you develop your paper:
1. What can go wrong with using algorithms to predict long-term unemployment? How could it be used for social bad? How realistic is the chance of that happening? Remember this tool from Case Study was built for the Portuguese government.
2. The case study data uses personal information such as geographic location/address, physical and/or mental disabilities, job performance, personal details such as gender, race, past income, profession, and more. Think about how leveraging such information to develop algorithms could be problematic. Give examples.
3. Are privacy issues a concern? Is there a chance this data may be shared with third parties that could potentially use this data for bad?
4. Consider this from the viewpoint of using AI in hiring systems. For this, you should read Chapter 6 of Weapons of Math Destruction. Are there similarities or differences?
5. Could any other case studies we have discussed (or from the textbooks) potentially lead to adverse scenarios where the AI system can cause risk to beneficiaries?
