Question

A phlebotomist goes to a patient's room to collect a blood culture and draw an ETS tube for trace elements. She disinfects the patient's arm with a povidone-iodine scrub, then draws the blood culture using a winged-infusion set with an adapter attached for the culture bottle. She fills the anaerobic bottle first, then the aerobic bottle. Then she removes the adaptor and attaches an ETS tube holder to the line. The royal-blue top tube fills and the phlebotomist is happy she got all the specimens with only one stick. What errors have been made in collecting the blood samples? What substances might interfere with the results? Will the laboratory be able to tell if the specimens were collected properly? How should the samples have been collected?
