Case Study: One HIM professional that preferably works in a nontraditional HIM setting or serves in an alternative role (e.g., non-hospital HIM department, IT, consulting, marketing, software vendor, risk management, case management, hospital administration, insurance, Hospice, LTC, managed care, home health, cancer registry, etc.).

2. What education was required?
3. Why did he/she choose this particular occupation and how did he/she find out about it?
4 Name and describe two specific aspects (duties) of the job.
5. What types of software does this person use on the job?
6. Would he/she recommend the job to a HIM graduating student? Why/why not?
7. What does the person like the most about his/her job? What does he/she like least about the job? What challenges does he/she see for the future?
8. How did HIM professional skills assist or prepare him/her for the role?
9. What special qualities does a person need to be a good fit for this job (personal and professional)?
10. Would you the student consider this job in the future? Why/why not?
