Question

How do you reply to a classmate about

1. What coalitions exist and what are their goals? If government agencies, most organizations have unions associated with their work group. In the civilian sector, some trades have unions as well. Most carpenters belong to a carpenter union, most plumbers belong to a plumber's union, but in trucking it is different. The company I am currently advising on is a transportation company, the owner will not accept any union into his organization. The owner has made it clear there will be no teamsters union or any other union coming to work for his company. Within ABC trucking, there are internal coalitions that exist among the employees. As covered (Bolman and Deal, 2017) "coalitions are tools for exercising power, and we contrast power with authority and highlight tensions between authorities and partisans (p.183). Naturally, members of the organization will form an internal hierarchy group, and it is almost always based on seniority. The individuals with the most seniority tend to be higher on the line staff pecking order. But ABC trucking does not have an organization flow chart, the chart starts at employee, then leads up to the owner. I have pleaded with the owner, and we are going to try to implement a team, with leaders in charge of the teams. The goals of the staff members are to get onto the owners' good side and stay on the good side. Without identified coalitions from leadership, there will be chaos every time a situation occurs.
