1) Have you ever followed a fitness plan that was a "prepackaged" plan? What were the components of the plan? How long were you able to follow it for? What were the good and bad things about the plan? What do you think about how MLM companies are impacting the fitness, supplement, and diet industries?
For the rest of this exercise - I want you to head to the store and explore the supplement aisle. Take a look at the supplements offered and at the label for at least three different supplements (only one can be a vitamin, the other two must be non-vitamin products).
2) What are the main claims made on the supplement label? What purpose is the supplement intended for?
3) What is the "active ingredient" listed? If it is a blend of ingredients, does the label give amounts for each component?
4) Does the supplement carry a certification from a third party source such as the UL?
5) Would you feel safe taking this supplement? Why or why not? Who should avoid this supplement? Feel free to ask a pharmacist if one is available for help with this question.
