Vi is a company with over 2,800 employees that owns and operates continuing care residential communities for older adults across the U.S. As the U.S. population ages, there is an increased demand for senior living facilities, which in turn creates a need to attract and retain new employees. Satisfied residents are more likely to want to stay in Vi's communities and are more likely to give positive recommendations to their friends and relatives who are potential residents. Vi competes for talent with luxury hotel brands and large health care systems. Vi believes that investing in employee development is key for attracting and retaining talented employees who in turn provide high-quality services to residents. Vi has several different leadership development programs. Vi believes that making an investment in its potential leaders not only helps to retain top talent but motivates them to manage their staffs in a way that enhances their engagement. In fact, many of Vi's current leaders, who joined the company in high school, have participated in the leadership development programs to advance their careers. The purpose of the Breakthrough Leadership Program (BLP) is to increase the competencies and effectiveness of experienced high-potential leaders. BLP prepares them to take on additional responsibilities or move into higher-level positions. The program content covers building results and accountability, employee and personal development, and improving communications and influencing others. The one-year program includes assessments, coaching, classroom and online learning, and virtual study groups. Vi partners with DePaul University to help deliver parts of Vi's Breakthrough Leadership Program and develop measures used to evaluate the program. Program participants also receive coaching to help them develop and execute an action plan tailored to their personal development needs. The Management Development program focuses on developing future leaders from employees currently working as servers and housekeepers and in engineering, dining, and administrative positions. This year-long program includes courses, experiential learning, and mentoring. In Vi's Emerging Leaders Program, employees participate in a six-month virtual learning program focused on developing the knowledge and skills they need to help them grow as leaders.
