Touch vs. Technology: The technological revolution in nursing has been ongoing and is rapidly progressing. Despite the many advances in technology, there are inevitable consequences. There is now remote patient care that does not require a nurse's physical presence. "In the drive to digitize every facet of the healthcare journey, we are potentially losing the 'human touch' that characterizes care interactions" (Pepito et al., 2023, p. 2).

Interpersonal contact within nursing consists of different dimensions of touch: contact that is instrumental (task-oriented), touch that provides physical comfort, and touch for emotional containment (support) (Pedrazza et al., 2015). Essentially, a nurse's touch can assess, assist, and affirm.
