Mrs. Matucci a 38-year-old cashier, has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism due to Graves' disease. Her doctor has explained the proposed therapy with propylthiouracil to her and her husband. She has no other known health problems at this time.

1. What laboratory studies will be performed before drug therapy with propylthiouracil is started? Explain your answer.

While reviewing the orders, you notice that the patient is to start receiving thyroid medication upon transfer to the medical-surgical unit. The written orders specify that 25 mcg of levothyroxine is available in stock. However, the pharmacy has only 25 mcg of liothyronine in stock. What is the nurse's priority action at this time?

5. After 18months after her treatment for Graves disease, Mrs. Matucci has been on levothyroxine therapy and complains of feeling palpitations and some heat intolerance. What actions the nurse advise she should take at this time.

6. Mrs. Matucci is 10weeks pregnant. She is very happy but worried about her hypothyroidism and the medication she is taking. "I am very worried that the medication will harm my baby". What is the best response to give?
