Case Study
An 83 year old female was admitted to the hospital two days ago after getting up in the middle of the night and walking outside the home. She was found wandering the city alone in her nightgown and could not remember where she lives. The police found her walking the streets at 430 am, very cold, tired, and upset and only knowing her name. The paramedics were called and she was transported to the ED.
In the ED, she was oriented x 1 only. She was talking about the bugs on the wall and the animals walking the streets. She was found to have blisters on her feet. He Potassium was 2.0, NA: 135
She was dehydrated and mucous membranes were dry.
Her family was out looking for her and called the police. The police advised them of where she was and are enroute to the hospital.
The patient on the morning assessment is awake and oriented x 4. Intermittently talking about animals walking around in her room and bugs on the wall. She asks the nurse when she can go home and she tells the nurse to please not let them send her to a nursing home. "I will die there."
One student will play the patient.

One student will play the case manager.
Two students will play observers.
