Question

1. To initiate a muscle contraction, calcium ions are released from storage areas within the (mitochondria / ER / SR / T-tubules). The role of calcium ions is to bind to the protein named (troponin / tropomyosin)a nd therefore to cause the troponin-tropomyosin complex to pull away from the sites on actin where heads of the other contractile protein myosin must bind.

2. Myosin heads have ATP attached to them at this point. The enzyme (ADPase, ATPase, AMPase) on myosin breaks down ATP into its products (ADP + P, ATP + P, AMP + P) which are still attached to myosin. The energy released by this reaction permits myosin heads to attach to binding sites on.

3. Release of the phosphate group triggers the " stroke" in which the myosin head rotates, releases (ATP / ADP ) and slides the thin filament towards the center of the sarcomere.

4. More ATP is needed to bind the myosin head and detach it form (actin / myosin) Splitting of ATP by ATPase located on (actin / myosin ) again activates myosin and returns it to its original positions, where it is ready to bind to another site on an actin further along the thin filament.
