The Multiple Risk Factor Intervention Trial (MRFIT) was a phase 3 randomized clinical trial designed to examine the effectiveness of an intervention designed to lower serum cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, and eliminate cigarette smoking to reduce mortality due to coronary heart disease (CHD) in men ages 35-59 years old. The study began in June 1972 and ended in 1998.
