Question

Embracing DEIB is having more than a Single Story. Watch the TED Talk entitled "The Danger of the Single Story" presented by novelist Chimamanda Adichie who tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice and warns that if we see and hear only a single story about another person, culture or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. Instructions: Following your viewing of this TED Talk, review Loden & Rosener's (1990) Dimensions of Diversity and assess and determine your own diversity wheel profile.

Your text and assess and determine how their profile would look on the Diversity Wheel and answer the following questions:

1. Describe how Ligua is different from you? Similar to you?

2. Describe how Mary is different from you? Similar to you?

3. Describe how Michael is different from you? Similar to you?

4. What could pose as a threat of seeing each of these individuals as a "single story" described by Chimamanda Adichie versus a "pluristic story?"

5. How might these differences and similarities shape your paradigm about each of these individuals and your interactions, positively or negatively?
