Question

The acidic compound is separated from an unknown contaminant using diethyl ether as the organic solvent and an aqueous solution. Once separated, the acidic compound and the unknown contaminant are then isolated from their respective layers. We are using concentrated acid/base to accomplish the conversion of the conjugate base back into its acidic form. The use of concentrated acid/base as opposed to dilute acid/base is used for two reasons: 1) it is being added to an open system and thus there is no concern if pressure buildup; and 2) the use of dilute solution increases the amount of water in the solution, which increases the overall solubility of the solute. Why would increasing the overall solubility of the solute be a problem?
