Diana "Wonder" Prince is a 49-year-old white woman with a history of obesity, hypertension, and migraine headaches. The patient comes to the doctor with complaints of blurred vision, headaches and reports a large increase in the amount of urine she produces with a voracious appetite. She is 5'1'' and has always been on the large side, with her weight fluctuating between 265 and 285 lb. Lab test demonstrated a hemoglobin A1c of 10.4% and a fasting glucose test of 235 mg/dl. The patient was then diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Initial treated with an oral sulfonylurea with the rapid addition of metformin with recommendations of beginning an exercise regimen. Follow up visits demonstrated fasting glucose test 170mg/dl and the patient was placed on a subcutaneous insulin administration plan.
