Question:
You are the administrator at Vibrant Valley Patient-Centered Medical Home, a healthcare facility that serves a diverse and multicultural community. As part of your role, you are in charge of ensuring that patients and medical home staff have access to high-quality information about healthcare policies, financing, and regulations. In order to help them, you will develop materials that support patient understanding of basic healthcare structures and systems. You will also create training documents for staff members to improve their knowledge of key healthcare laws and regulations and enable them to address some of the ethical issues in healthcare practice.
Directions
During a recent meeting, your colleague, Dr. Sylvia Shaw, expressed concern that many new patients do not understand critical information that could impact the healthcare they receive.
In response to this issue, she has asked you to develop a patient handbook that describes the basic structure and features of the US healthcare system, how healthcare services are financed and delivered to patients and how the Affordable Care Act is changing how US citizens obtain access to health insurance.
This handbook should provide a clear and accessible overview for a multi-cultural community of patients who may not speak English fluently or who may be new to the US healthcare system.
In order to develop the contents of the handbook, refer to the Project resources, including the Patient Handbook Expectations.
