Assume that you are an HR consultant trainee providing assistance to a senior consultant, who is to offer advice to a medium size company that makes construction and interior design materials. It has around 300 employees in two main divisions. One of the divisions focuses on Research, Design, and Development (a smaller division) while the other concerns product manufacturing. The company is facing unprecedented challenges with a virus pandemic situation, in which demand for its products is at the lowest level since the start of the company. The CEO is hoping to cut staff cost to save financial resources in this crisis, which could potentially last months to over a year. What general questions would you ask of the company, and what suggestions for strategies and implementation would you make regarding HR planning in terms of downsizing and restructuring and related changes for each of the divisions for the short term and long term? This will include supporting arguments for your suggestions as well as a discussion of the challenges involved and ways of overcoming them as appropriate. State your reasonable assumptions as needed and apply relevant course concepts in your analysis and recommendations. Your senior consultant will use your submission as the basis to offer advice to the company.
