Both the meta and para forms of phenylene diamine are used in the production of Kevlar and Nomex, respectively. Why is a corresponding material with similar properties not made from ortho-phynelene diamine, and why is the ortho form of the diamine a hindering impurity that must be rigoursly removed before the production of Kevlar and Nomex.
