Question

Medical terminology for each clinical condition?

1. Condition: Pulmonary embolism-is a blood clot in the lung that occurs when a clot in another part of the body (often the leg or arm) moves through the bloodstream and becomes lodged in the blood vessels of the lung. This restricts blood flow to the lungs, lowers oxygen levels in the lungs and increases blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. If a clot develops in a vein and it stays there, it's called a thrombus. If the clot detaches from the wall of the vein and travels to another part of your body, it's called an embolus.

2. Condition: Pleural effusion- also called water on the lung, happens when fluid builds up in the space between your lungs and chest cavity.

3. Condition: Atelectasis-is a partial or complete collapse of the entire lung or a specific area, or lobe, of the lung, leading to impaired exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen. Atelectasis occurs when the alveoli (small air sacs) within the lung become deflated or fill with alveolar fluid.

4. Condition: Pneumothorax, or a collapsed lung, is the collection of air in the spaces around the lungs. The air buildup puts pressure on the lung(s), so it cannot expand as much as it normally.

5. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production and wheezing. It's typically caused by long-term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter, most often from cigarette smoke. People with COPD are at increased risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer and a variety of other conditions. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the two most common conditions that contribute to COPD. These two conditions usually occur together and can vary in severity among individuals with COPD.

Emphysema is a condition in which the alveoli at the end of the smallest air passages (bronchioles) of the lungs are destroyed as a result of damaging exposure to cigarette smoke and other irritating gases and particulate matter.
