Question

John is an occupational therapist currently working in a skilled nursing facility. Andrew is an 86-year-old senior patient on his caseload with a diagnosis of mild dementia who may be going home soon. Andrew's family recently requested that John assess Andrew for a GPS-tracking device, such as a pendant or a watch, as they are concerned about his safety in the home or if he leaves the house unattended. Andrew lives alone following the death of his wife, Melanie, two years ago. Andrew's children have tried to get him to move to an assisted living facility. However, Andrew has insisted on continuing to live independently at home. His family members are requesting the tracking device as they reported several incidents recently where Andrew has wandered out of the back door during the day.
