Question

Roseola is a viral infection that causes a rash that appears shortly after the temperature returns to normal. The rash appears as a maculopapular eruption that spreads mainly to the trunk area and will usually disappear in 24 hours. Associated symptoms include a mild cough and rhinorrhea. Fever followed by a rash is specific to Roseola. Management: Symptomatic treatment. Tylenol or ibuprofen for fever as needed.Tylenol oral suspension OTCSIG: take 5ml PO every 4 hours as needed Max dose 25ml in 24 hours, do not exceed 75mg a dayChildren's Advil oral suspension OTCSIG: take 5ml PO every 6-8 hours as needed, max 20ml in 24 hoursgive with food if GI upset occurs.Education: The rash will resolve in 24 hours and can alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen for fever reduction. The child should get plenty of rest and increase fluid intake. Take all medications as directed and do not exceed the recommended dosage. Do not give any other medications that have combined acetaminophen or ibuprofen in medication.
