A survey of 2,986 Americans aged 16 and older found that 80% of them read at least one book in the past year. Of these book readers, the mean number of books reading the past year is 17, while the median number of books read in the past year is 8.

(1) Using the mean and median given above, what is the likely shape of the distribution of the number of books read in a year?

(2) Give the correct notation for the value "17". Is it a parameter or a statistic?

(3) Give notation for and define the population value that can be estimated using "17".
