Aa 68-year-old man, is admitted for a second mitral valve repair and coronary artery bypass graft surgery. He did not adhere to the treatment plan after his original surgery 7 years ago. You are worried about his future adherence to drugs, diet, and exercise. He is now on dialysis, making him a high-risk open surgical patient. J.L. and his caregiver request all treatment and decline to discuss advance directives (ADs) or do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders.
