Question 1

Rituals as a part of religion. What is the purpose of rituals in a society?  What are some rituals of the past?  What are some rituals of today?  Do we need rituals?

Do some research on rituals and try to use functionalist theory to help you understand their purpose!

Question 2

I want to expand on this post about the function of family by asking a question of good relationships vs. a 'good' family. Do you think we elevate form over function when it comes to family values and law? In other words, do you think we focus too much on the make up of the family--mom/dad/kids--and not enough on the quality of parenting or relationship? Should we promote good relationships rather than an 'idealized' family form?

Form over function? OR Function over form?
