Scenario

Yeny( You) is an enrolled nurse who provides care for people in their home. Today you are visiting Kim Sharp. You arrive at Kim's home to find them sitting in a lounge chair and they ask you to assist them to mobilise to the bathroom.

As you have cared for Kim many times you undertake this task without consulting the manual handling chart. Kim rises from the chair independently and takes a few steps forward before stumbling and falling to the floor. Kim is not injured, and you assist them to get up and to sit back in their lounge chair.

Kim is very upset about falling and is angry with you. They state "You should have given me my walker". You check the manual handling chart to discover it was reviewed by the physiotherapist yesterday and it now indicates that Kim must utilise a walking frame when mobilising around the house.

To achieve competence in this simulation you will demonstrate the ability to:

• commence the open disclosure procedure with Kim in alignment with the TAFE Community Care: Policy and Procedure - Open disclosure
• verbally report the incident and your actions to the registered nurse supervisor in alignment with professional and legislative standards
• align with knowledge and skills underpinning task as aforementioned.
