R. J. is a 75-year-old male is getting to return home after surgery to correct a broken hip. He refused to be sent to rehabilitation services as an inpatient as M. J., his wife of 40 years, is living with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and he wants to get back home to her. He is feeling frustrated and abandoned with trying to recover from the surgery, his limited mobility, his worry about his wife and her care needs. His children all live in different states and their employment requirements do not permit them to come and provide regular assistance. One daughter came out when he fell and required surgery, but she has to leave back for home in three days. She is feeling overwhelmed on how to make sure her parents are safe and cared for. Her mother regularly attends church and has a strong faith. Her father has attended on occasion, but after serving in the Vietnam war, feels "he saw too much to believe that if there was a God, he would have let all those people die that way." The daughter reaches out to the nurse case manager at her parents' primary care provider for help.
