The new manager of Buffalo Allied Health has submitted a report in which she has outlined several problems that she feels are responsible for the low production that has been plaguing her facility. The first problem that she identifies is that employees and therapists are working with equipment that they have not been specifically trained to use. There are often significant differences that she has identified between the preparation workers have and the actual tasks that they are expected to perform. She feels that this is the primary reason for poor productivity. Her report also indicates that absenteeism in the Therapy Clinic is 15% higher than that which is experienced by the surrounding clinics and hospital facilities. It is also noted in her report that she can find no reason for the higher absenteeism. She is willing to speculate that there is a relationship between poor training and low morale. This can cause employees to be absent from work. The third problem in the clinic noted in her report is that because the Clinic operates some of the company's oldest equipment, downtime and a lack of spare parts leave many workers idle for what she calls "extended periods." The manager speculates that these three problems could be the causes for low productivity. She adds that until the Clinic has newer equipment and better training for its personnel, productivity will continue to be a problem.
