On a Friday late afternoon, you the IP have not had results of a culture that was sent for a resident with fever and chills. The charge nurse told you the next shift's charge nurse will be notified to look for the results and call you when they arrive. Meanwhile the resident has been started on an IV antibiotic. When you return Monday morning, after not receiving a phone call from any charge nurse, you find the culture results were final on Sunday and were negative. The resident is doing better, and the IV antibiotic is still being given. Which of these should be done next?
