The research review found that 29 of 44 studies (65.9%) reported effectiveness in reducing anxiety symptoms, including worry, by the end of treatment. Of these, 18 studies had follow-up assessments (2-12 months), with 14 (77.8%) maintaining treatment gains. Among RCTs, 17 of 29 studies showed effectiveness, but only 8 of 23 with follow-up maintained gains. Pre-post studies were highly effective, with 11 of 12 (91.7%) reducing anxiety, and 6 of 8 with follow-up maintaining gains. Additionally, 20 of 32 studies examining comorbid depression reported reduced depressive symptoms, with 8 of 16 maintaining gains at follow-up. The most common intervention was CBT (68.2%), delivered individually and face-to-face, though only 31.2% of interventions had six or fewer sessions, and 13.6% had sessions of 30 minutes or less, limiting compatibility with the primary care behavioral health (PCBH) model.
