1. Think of all the things you do or enjoy doing immensely and perceive to be essential to your life. How would you feel if asked to give up these things? Would it be easy or difficult for you to give up any of the things you really enjoy?

It's hard not to think of at least one or two pleasurable things that we would have difficulty giving up, even when it is harmful (e.g. alcohol). Similarly, people who use alcohol and other substances may think they can handle their substance use. But, when they try to change or reduce their use, it is often not that simple. No one sets out to become addicted to alcohol or other drugs.

2. Reflect on your answers to the above questions in consideration of the statement and what you have learned about the neurobiology of addiction.
