(a) A receptionist who has been working in a large accountancy firm for eleven months has been complaining of aching shoulder, neck pain and sore eyes. Much of her work involves using a telephone to take messages and redirect calls to appropriate departments. The receiver regularly uses a computer to make appointments, record messages, and respond to e-mails. A job safety examination was carried out by a competent person to identify the possible problems with the working environment and to determine where improvements could be made. The job safety analysis identified the following problems:

- The receptionist would often hold the telephone handset between her shoulder and ear while talking on the phone and typing a message on the computer. She regularly adopted this awkward posture during the working day

- The characters on the computer screen were difficult to read

- Glare and reflections were generated from light through the window
