Question

The selection of a quantitative approach to implementing the research in this dissertation can be supported by the following reasons. The study aims to establish the relationship between nurse staffing ratios and turnover intentions and test burnout levels among psychiatric nurses (Christianson et al., 2023). The study will use a quantitative research design as this enhances statistical analysis to determine the direction and strength of the association. Identifying generalizable data must contribute to the needs-based intervention approach to address burnout and high staff turnover rates in psychiatric setting. The selected descriptive-correlational design is most suitable for this context since it allows for exploring the interrelations between many variables while avoiding interference with the research context. The design is most appropriate for evaluating the effects of the current established staffing ratios and burnout levels on turnover intentions (Gehri et al., 2023). In contrast, experimental designs are not always possible in large-scale studies because of ethical and practical considerations. A correlational design points to the naturally occurring relationships between the examined variables, which give a rather accurate picture of the causes of psychiatric nurse turnover.
