The public health issue to be addressed is the transmission of HIV to women living in NYC. The identified gap in the NYC Health + Hospitals public health system is between women being educated and made aware of HIV transmission prevention and actively preventing transmission. This gap was identified after multiple studies found that women in NYC were not participating in HIV prevention treatment using PrEP. To address this public health issue, studies were conducted to education women living in NYC about HIV and the benefits of taking PrEP to prevent transmission (Blackstock et al., 2021). Women were receptive to the education and showed interest in taking the medication, however there little to no participants to show up for their appointments to begin treatment.
