Part of public administration is learning about public policy and its various types. However, there are several policies-starting at the local level up to the government level-that could affect a small community or an entire country. A major aspect to consider is that this is a system of laws, regulatory measures, courses of action, and funding priorities that may determine which policies are approved and which are denied. All of these aspects involve efforts of special interest groups trying to influence policymakers to approve or deny the policies that affect those special interest groups the most. Some policies starting at the local level are the following:
Medical and recreational marijuana
School vaccinations
Camping within city limits
These are just a few ideas on public policy-making at local levels going up to the government level.
