Psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic theories provided the first comprehensive model of personality and a foundation for studying human behavior. This foundation led to experimentation, study, research, and the formulation of theories focused solely on the individual and his or her behavior. These behaviors were believed to originate from unconscious conflicts. Each theorist offered different reasons for the conflicts residing in the unconscious. The goal was to resolve the conflicts and ease the tension between the conscious and the unconscious in the individual, thereby leading to a more mentally healthy, integrated individual. The intent was to take these ideas and find new ways to understand ourselves, the people in our lives, and how our personalities affect interactions and relationships. In this Assignment, you will reflect on psychoanalytic theories and their applicability in explaining human behavior.

To prepare, review this week's Learning Resources on psychoanalytic theories. Think about how you would apply these theories in your personal and professional life.

a 2- to 3-page APA-formatted reflection paper that addresses the following:

  • Explain any insights you gained about the psychoanalytic theories introduced in the Learning Resources.
  • Explain how the application of these theories might help you understand yourself and your personal and professional relationships.
  • Include a paragraph indicating whether or not you find psychoanalytic theories effective for explaining human behavior.

Remember that this is a personal reflection, but it still needs to demonstrate your understanding of the week's topics. Be specific, and provide examples.
