RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Research Background Research Title

Research title is the first piece of information read by the audience. You need to carefully think of a research title, that is truly and concisely reflective of what your project is all about.

Abstract
The abstract at this stage is a carefully written single paragraph which succinctly describes the background and research problem that is being investigated, research methods and initial findings. Although the abstract appears at the beginning of your proposal, it is typically the last section to be written.

Introduction
Briefly introduce your area of research, problem to be solved, significance of the problem and how you are going to solve it.

Problem Background
Provide further background information on the problem to be solved. You should cite multiple sources from the literature to build-up the narrative surrounding the problem and significance of your research.

Problem Statement
Provide a single statement that succinctly describes the problem you aim to solve.

Research Question and Methods
Research Objectives
Succinctly describe the objective(s) of your research project in bullet-points.

Research Question
The research question lies at the heart of your research project. The question stems from the research problem you defined earlier and corresponds to your objectives. Your question should be well-defined and answerable within project's timeframe. For the purpose of this project, you should define a single research question.
Project Scope
Make a clear statement on what is (or is not) part of your project to draw the boundaries. Provide justification for your statement.
Research Methods
Explain what research methods will be used in your project, rationale behind using the chosen method, why other methods have been excluded. For the purpose of this project, use a qualitative approach (literature review).

Research Plan Preliminary Results
If there are any preliminary results or observations acquired from the initial review of literature, provide them in this section.

Project Timeline
Develop a plan for your research, which includes milestones and timeline for deliverable. You may want to use a Gantt Chart in week intervals.

Conclusion
Conclude your report with a brief summary of the proposal, which may include the problem to be solved, significance of the problem, research methods and next steps.
